Mapúa University highlights the importance of innovation, research, and community service as it celebrates its University Day on May 4.
Hinged on the theme of “Catalyzing Social Change Through Service and Innovation,” the festivities are organized to demonstrate the significance of research and innovation in nation building and national development.
Mapúa University president and chief executive officer Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea said that the event will not just celebrate and showcase research and innovation but will also aim to enkindle the collaborative spirit in Filipino students and to inspire them to create ideas that will uplift communities and society.
“With Mapúa’s strengths in engineering, design, and technology, we want to continuously give significant contributions to our country’s development by inspiring and encouraging both our faculty and students to initiate designs and innovations addressing community needs and advancing the betterment of society and the interest of mankind,” Vea stated.
The theme will be crystalized by the presence of Mapúa University student Carvey Ehren Maigue, the first-ever James Dyson Award Sustainability Winner in the world and inventor of the world-renowned AuREUS, and Engr. Marloun P. Sejera, one of the builders of the Maya-2 CubeSat launched to the International Space Station last February.
The celebration will start with the opening ceremony, which will be graced by the Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary for Research and Development Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara as the inspirational speaker. Commission on Higher Education Chairman J. Prospero E. de Vera III will also give his keynote message during the event.
The University will present its successful research projects that were launched and ongoing efforts in partnership with local and international universities and organizations to initiate environment conservation and sustainable development in communities in various regions of the country through the Office for International Linkages for Research and Development and the Office of Social Orientation and Community Involvement Program.
The opening ceremony will be followed by the Cardinal Challenge 2021: Mapúa Design and Innovation Competition, an event open to all senior high school and college students in the country that highlights research initiatives.
