Driven by a shared mission to build a more disaster-resilient nation, Malayan Insurance Co., Inc. (MICO) and the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) have successfully achieved a major milestone in their joint Master of Disaster Special Edition (MOD) rollout, equipping schools with life-saving knowledge and tools.
The initiative successfully brought the MOD program to two of the country’s premier institutions: Makati Science High School and Quezon City Science High School. Through this collaboration, the schools were not only provided with MOD board game sets but also received teacher training sessions to ensure the long-term sustainability of the program, alongside interactive gameplay sessions with the students. A total of 63 teachers and parents, and 128 students enjoyed the activities.
MOD is an educational board game that uses experiential learning to teach students disaster preparedness, risk management, and resilience. Through realistic disaster scenarios, students work together to make decisions, solve problems, and draw out practical lessons they can apply in real life. To elevate the learning experience, Malayan Insurance integrated custom-designed insurance cards into the gameplay, showcasing how insurance serves as a critical safety net in disaster recovery. These cards were created to promote insurance awareness and help students better understand the role of risk management in building resilience.
“Through the Master of Disaster game, students experienced how different choices can affect outcomes. In real life, the same principle applies. The more prepared we are, the better equipped we become to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities,” said Ms. Denden Tesoro, Chief Operating Officer at Malayan Insurance and an alumnus of Quezon City Science High School.
MOD is a flagship initiative under Love, Malayan, Malayan Insurance’s community program and expression of gratitude to the communities that have supported its growth.
ASSIST is a self-sustaining, pan-Asian NGO focused on capacity building, sustainable practices, and social impact. Since 2003, it has partnered with corporations to develop renowned CSR programs that create lasting change in communities.
Building on the strong foundation laid by this partnership with ASSIST, Malayan Insurance is now taking the next step in its resilience advocacy. The company will continue to expand disaster preparedness and insurance education nationwide, through its independent rollout of the Master of Disaster program, aiming to reach more schools across the country.
