Phillip Hernandez a.k.a. Davao Conyo, the CEO of smooth promotions on Facebook and TikTok, has found his groove and a dedicated audience of over 4 million social media followers.
In an interview with broadcast host Jing Castañeda during her online show “PamilyaTalk with Tita Jing,” Phillip gladly shared his journey from doing Bisaya dub videos to crafting original skits for all types of Pinoy audiences. Now, he has moved residence to Metro Manila from Davao to take advantage of more opportunities and inspire others to explore content creation too.
According to Phillip, one of the tools that is crucial to his work is a home internet subscription that’s ‘swak’ for his budget and needs. Switching to the brand SKY Fiber has saved him more times than once. From conducting live video streams around his home to communicating with his family back home in Davao, a reliable internet connection allows him to balance his fast-paced career and lifestyle.
But more than having a solid internet connection for work and daily life, Phillip values connecting with his audience through his content. Here are three of the most notable tidbits he imparted in the “PamilyaTalk” episode:
Content creation should be easy.
Enjoying what you do is important to maintaining your momentum. If it’s difficult, you’ll lose interest. So, if simply using a smartphone and basic props gets the job done for you, then feel free to do so.
“We’re in the day and age where your videos don’t have to be polished as long as it’s relatable,” Phillip explained. He noticed how viral videos don’t always have the best production value because people care more about the story.
Take advantage of your “good” days
At times, it can be a struggle to create content because you won’t always get a surge of ideas. A trick Phillip loves to do is he squeezes all his creativity out on his “good” days. He’d write down all his ideas in a notebook, so that he can always go back to it when he needs inspiration.
Sometimes, he would even stop in the middle of whatever task to research and build on his ideas. Thankfully, he gets seamless internet connection anywhere in his house. He quipped, “If your mind works fast, everything around you should be able to catch up, including your internet speed.”
It’s nice to use your voice, but you need to choose your battles.
The internet can be an overwhelming place, especially when you are opening up much of yourself to the public eye. To this, Phillip reminds internet users to stay true to themselves while also choosing their battles. You don’t have to tackle all things at once and be present for every issue, trend, or event.
Audiences and brands connect with creators who are authentic and real, but remember that you can be genuine without compromising your well-being and your privacy. At the same time, as consumers of content, we also have to uphold the responsibility of being respectful internet users.
