Teacher Eats: An Australian Ice Cream Experience at Geláre

I love desserts so much, I can eat them all without the guilt of the carbs. One of my dessert obsession is eating ice cream. One creamy and tasty ice cream is what I need to overcome bad days or even bad mood. Well, I haven’t tried different kinds of ice cream from other countries yet apart from our “dirty ice cream” and the ones that are available in convenient stores. But if there’s one ice cream that got me interested, it is the one from Australia.

What makes Australian Ice Cream different?

According to my “little research,” Australian ice cream products are “number one ingredient for all our dairy products is fresh milk and our number two is cream.” In short, Aussie’s ice cream is all about “FRESH AND CREAMY.” Something that you can only see to a place where produces tons fresh milk from free ranch livestock.

Thank goodness, the same famous Aussie ice cream is now made available here in metro manila. Gelare, a famous Australian dessert café made its first flagship store at Uptown Mall, BGC Taguig City. Founded in 1986, its mouth-watering gourmet ice cream and other famous dishes like waffles, vegan desserts, and light hearty breakfast have touched Aussie people for over 20 years, and counting.

From the Italian word that means “to freeze” or “to conceal,” which is the final step in the ice cream making process, Gelare has made 24 ice cream flavors that have 25% air content compared to the usual ice cream. That makes their ice cream so creamy and melts in your mouth because of it’s airless texture. I notice how the consistency and creaminess of every scoop of their ice cream make it different from the other ice cream products.

Flavors like Matcha Green Tea, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Honey Malt and Peanut Butter Cup are my favorite flavors that you should try once you visit. For vegans out there, you can also try their “vegan” and “Halal certified” ice cream flavors like Caramel Swirl, Lychee Lane Sorbet, Mango Passion Sorbet, and Lemon Lime Sorbet. Their ice cream is surely for everyone to enjoy.

Other than their creamy and tasty ice cream, they also serve my favorite food of all time: waffles. Their waffles are well-cooked, as they’re crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is also a good partner with their creamy ice cream and their other breakfast meals. My favorite waffle flavor for me is their Waffle a la mode (waffle with a scoop of ice cream and whipped cream) and their Nutella Waffle.

Want something meaty and savory? Gelare serves awesome buttermilk fried chicken that indeed melts in your mouth and now serves as my favorite chicken of all. The juicy and tasty meat of the chicken perfectly compliments the waffle’s milky taste.
