Getting information on today’s generation has been so easy to a lot of people. One click to another from our computers to our cellphones; to reading newspapers to watching television, getting information today are so easy than peeling vegetables. Us teachers are being aware that most of the students are more involve in what they’re learning at the internet than school. That they spend most of their time watching televisions and browsing the internet than reading books and having some shared time with the family. Since these tools are becoming more essential to our children’s life, we as parents, teachers, and adults have to be more vigilant, responsible and wise on how we can protect and educate our kids towards good development.
Most of what our young children and teenagers see and learn from television shows nowadays shows how advance and relevant it is to what is happening to their lives as growing up. Some of them are not right and valuable for the youth to understand and apply. Children from various kinds of ages might watch some shows that is too harsh for them without knowing what is it all about. So us adults should always be there to educate them about the things that they’re watching on television. Good thing here in the Philippines we have a government agency whose responsible for guiding us viewers towards wiser and responsible viewing experience. The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board or MTRCB is the government agency whose responsible to the rating of television shows and movies that’s shown everyday before airing TV programs etc.
This year on it’s 30th anniversary, MTRCB formally launched it’s new Infomercial on 23 February 2015 at 2:00 p.m., MTRCB Building. It was Directed by renowned film and television director Jose Javier “Joey” Reyes, Jr., DGPI and conceptualized by Mr. Erlito “Lilit” Reyes. The infomercial features actors-spouses Ryan and Judy Ann Agoncillo in a typical morning situation at home where in such scene, their child picks up a word from a television show and asks the elders in the house what it means.
The infomercial aims to challenge parents and responsible adults to be aware of the media content our children are exposed to, and to be mindful of the MTRCB’s classification ratings. Parents are also reminded that the primary duty in guiding their children as to the media the latter see still rests in them.
Details of the infomercial were discussed by Director Joey Reyes, Ryan and Judy Ann Agoncillo, Lilit Reyes and MTRCB Board Members Bibeth Orteza and Manet Dayrit, the latter being Co-Chairpersons of the Infomercial Committee.
The launch was culminated by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the TV Networks and theater operators to ensure showing of the infomercial and to continuously empower the general public towards discerning viewership and thus, among other objectives, inform parents as to the media and entertainment their children may see.
The infomercial will be aired in all television networks and theaters nationwide starting 25 February 2015.
