The Philippines

The Philippines is a popular beach destination for travelers all over the world. The World Travel Awards (WTA) named the country “Asia’s Leading Beach Destination” last September at the WTA Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony, held at City of Dreams Manila, highlighting more reasons why travelers should come and visit.

“There’s no denying that the charm of our islands, our pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life continue to captivate travelers all over the world. We are honored to be named ‘Asia’s Leading Beach Destination’ by the World Travel Awards, as it inspires us to continue developing ways to enhance our tourists’ local experiences. We hope the ‘Philippine experience’ will always be filled with love and happy travels.” said Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.

Patar Beach in Bolinao, Pangasinan, is a serene escape that boasts breathtaking rock formations and golden sands, providing a tranquil retreat for visitors.

In July, Sec. Frasco led the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines in welcoming delegates of the Philippine MICE Conference (MICECON) 2024, where she expressed enthusiasm and support for the local MICE industry as the Philippines gears up to welcome more large-scale events. It is also at the MICECON where Sec. Frasco announced the country’s hosting of this year’s WTA Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony.

Considered the “Oscars” of the travel industry, the WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. Now, the WTA is globally recognized as the ultimate hallmark of quality, while its winners serve as the benchmark for those in the industry.

This year, the Philippines received seven awards, namely Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, Asia’s Leading Island Destination, Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination (Boracay), Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction (Intramuros), Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign (Love the Philippines), Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination (Cebu), Asia’s Leading Beach Destination, and the Transformational Leader Award in Tourism Governance for Sec. Frasco.
