Pru Life UK Adapts Cha-Ching Curriculum for Effective Distance Learning

Pru Life UK

Pru Life UK, together with Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential plc in Asia and Africa, has partnered with Junior Achievement (JA) Philippines, a non-profit organization, and the Department of Education to support the distance learning education system introduced in response to Covid-19.

“We have adapted the Cha-Ching Curriculum to support the Department of Education’s online learning model, allowing more interaction between parents and their children as they study basic financial literacy at home,” shared Pru Life UK Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Marketing Officer Allan Tumbaga.

The Cha-Ching Curriculum has been adapted for online delivery to hundreds of thousands of Filipino students for the school year 2020-2021. One of the major changes of the Curriculum is the creation of supplementary video guides for students, to be distributed through Radio and TV Broadcasting (RTB). These video guides will be broadcast alongside Cha-Ching music videos to support the teaching of each Cha-Ching module at home. The videos will be available on Brigada Radio and a local TV channel.

All learning materials have been translated into Filipino and localized to include examples that are relevant to 4th grade learners.

Activity worksheets for students and instructions for parents have been developed to encourage parents to walkthrough the learning materials with their children. An assessment tool has also been created to allow Cha-Ching school partners to evaluate the activities or worksheets completed by students at home.

Pru Life UK in Cha-Ching Education Accreditation

As part of Pru Life UK and Prudence Foundation’s advocacy to promote financial literacy, the Cha-Ching Financial Accreditation (CCFA) was also launched earlier this year. This online assessment tool was created to recognise educators’ competencies and inspire excellence in teaching the Cha-Ching Curriculum. The CCFA was developed in partnership with JA Asia Pacific and aligns with the OECD Core Competencies Framework on Financial Literacy for Youth and the ASEAN Teachers Competency Framework. “Pru Life UK is committed to building a community of certified Cha-Ching financial educators and schools that help develop financial responsible adults in the Philippines” added Tumbaga.

Cha-Ching teachers have been supported by the Department of Education and JA Philippines in their registration and CCFA examinations, with over 2,000 financial educators from the Bicol and Negros regions in the Philippines having passed the exam to date.
