Teacher Eats: Filipino-Western Foodtrip at Plana’s Pastry

Friday food trips are one of the best introduction for weekends. Yes, it has the worst traffic but food trip till midnight is one of my sweet treats after a week of work. It gives me more opportunity to explore more good restos and eat special dishes. In the streets of Mandaluyong, there’s a fancy restaurant that’s family owned and known for their Western-Filipino dishes.

Plana’s Pastry Restaurant (owned by the Plana’s Family) have two branches located at Quezon Ave. Quezon City and Guevarra St. Mandaluyong City. Owned and operated by husband and wife team Jolly and Rachel Plana, it is all about a family inspired, simple, honest, generous, delightful food, and good relationships. The one in Mandaluyong City looks so fancy and appealing from the outside parking lot.

The “photograph-friendly” interior of the resto is worth to visit as well as the food they’re serving. It has positive posts on their wall, home-made white chairs, and mirrors that make it fancy to take pictures with.

For this holiday season, Plana’s Pastry “Together Set Meal” is one of the highlights of the night. And each dishes has something to rave about.

I start my Plana’s dinner with the unusual Pesto Rice (P40) that can serve for 2-3 people. The rice tastes good and not oily (since it’s mixed with pesto sauce), and it makes the other meat dishes tastes well-balanced.

Plana’s Lengua (P280) is one of the recommended dishes I like to share. The Lengua with creamy mushroom sauce is so tender and tasty, it melts in your mouth. They just need to do something with the sauce because it tends to look clumpy when it gets cold, but it tastes good.

Both Plana’s Tomato Basil & Shrimp Pasta (P220) and creamy Carbonara (P220) tastes good and affordable for a pasta served with garlic and cheese bread for 2.

The chicken fillet in sweet Japanese sauce with french beans on the side makes Plana’s Chicken Teriyaki (P215) different among others. It’s a must try!

And to top it all up, Plana’s Hickory Back Ribs is one of the awesome BBQ Ribs that I ever tasted (not being exaggerated but its true). The BBQ sauce complements well with the tender meat of the back ribs and better serve with the pesto rice and buttered corn.

This Christmas Hearty Set is best served with their in-house ice tea and bet it is a good deal.

To summarized everything, I concluded that my dinner night with Plana’s Pastry is beyond good for a Friday night. Good to bond with your friends and family and hope you can have your experience too. This Christmas season, try out something new and make Plana’s Pastry as your bonding place to be in.
